Teak Furniture

I like the design and the look of mid-century teak furniture. Teak is used to make outdoor furniture, boats, indoor furniture and other things which require resistance to the external elements.  Being more expensive than most other woods, teak is valuable both for its elegance and its durability. Beyond its beauty, it also possesses some natural properties that other woods don't have. There are natural oils and rubber locked right into the tight grain of the teak wood. All woods contain oils that protect the tree -- think maple sap or tea tree oil. Teak, however, can retain these oils and its rubber even after being processed. Because of this, teak has greater naturally weather-resistant properties than just about any other type of wood.

Great Danish furniture designers as Grete Jalk, Hans Wegner, and others would favour teak over many other types of wood. As, teak is well known for its durability and quality, which allowed these designers to know that their work would endure through many years, which is an exciting prospect for any type of artist. Also, teak wood is resistant to such problems as termites and the elements, so fine designers knew that their pieces would serve those who bought them well for years to come. They also favoured the bold look of the wood, which makes it suitable for many different situations and environments.
